The Videos

Trivia

  • Bon Jovi's first best-of album. These Days was supposed to be released in 1994. But the band took so long for the recording and writing process that Cross Road was released instead to avoid another long break between two albums like they had between New Jersey and Keep The Faith.

  • Always was the album's first single and became one of Bon Jovi's most successful hits. The song was originally written for the soundtrack to the 1993 film Romeo is bleeding. But after Jon didn't like the movie he decided not to lend the song to the producers. The song was put aside until A&R executive John Kalodner convinced Jon to re-record and release it for Cross Road.

  • When the band recorded Someday I'll Be Saturday Night, Jon walked up to their sound engineer with a CD of Soul Asylum's Runaway Train, saying "I want that sound!" Subtle influences of it can also be heard in the lyrics, especially in the demo version. Furthermore, the video clip for the song resembles its influence quite a lot in terms of certain angles and especially colour settings.

  • Demo versions of Always and Someday I'll Be Saturday Night were released on the Box Set in 2004.

  • "Runaway" was never recorded with the band. So there were plans to record it for that album but the plan was dismissed.

  • The diner located on the cover of the album is the Roadside Diner in Wall Township, New Jersey.

  • Always was the last single to be released with Alec John Such being in the band and Someday I'll Be Saturday Night the first with Hugh McDonald being officially in the band. Although it's likely to assume that Hugh already played the bass on both tracks.

Live

  • Every song from this best-of compilation has been performed live one time or another during their career.

  • In And Out Of Love is the only song that has never been done live after the release of Cross Road. The last time the song was played was during the Slippery When Wet tour. When the band played their 12-night stint at the O2 arena in June 2010, fans requested In And Out Of Love and during one show, right before Wanted Dead Or Alive, Jon and Richie started playing around with the main riff on their acoustic guitars with Richie having every intention to actually play the song. In the end, Jon told him to stop and they started Wanted instead, making it the last “sighting” of that song at a Bon Jovi concert

  • When Never Say Goodbye gets played live it is in an acoustic rendition. The last time the song was played in its original version was during the Slippery When Wet tour. During the Cross Road tour in 1995 the band played a half acoustic/half electric version of the song but it was still far away from the original recording.

  • The Prayer 94  version from the US release was never played live the way it was recorded for Cross Road. Only similiar acoustic versions were played from time to time.
